Harmony Day
Harmony Day is an event held across Australia on 21 March, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Harmony Day is an Australian Government initiative run by the Diverse Australia Program, administered by the DIAC that deals with cultural, racial and religious intolerance by promoting respect, fairness and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Harmony Day is a day to celebrate a commitment to harmony and mutual respect in a culturally diverse nation. The event's major objectives are focused on reducing racial prejudice and intolerance in Australia.
We celebrated Harmony Day in the TAFE on 24 March. We sang Australian Anthem together.
Then students from different countries told about their immigration’s history. Some of them sang national songs. Most of all I remembered song the student from China. He had has very strong voice.
All students brought different kinds of national food. It was very interesting to taste the delicious food from around the world.I think this day is very useful to explore the characteristics of different cultures. This helps to overcome the stereotypes and attitudes that is a necessary factor in a variety of Australian lives.
