Harmony Day

Harmony Day is an event held across Australia on 21 March, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Harmony Day is an Australian Government initiative run by the Diverse Australia Program, administered by the DIAC that deals with cultural, racial and religious intolerance by promoting respect, fairness and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Harmony Day is a day to celebrate a commitment to harmony and mutual respect in a culturally diverse nation. The event's major objectives are focused on reducing racial prejudice and intolerance in Australia.
We celebrated Harmony Day in the TAFE on 24 March. We sang Australian Anthem together.
Then students from different countries told about their immigration’s history. Some of them sang national songs. Most of all I remembered song the student from China. He had has very strong voice.
All students brought different kinds of national food. It was very interesting to taste the delicious food from around the world.I think this day is very useful to explore the characteristics of different cultures. This helps to overcome the stereotypes and attitudes that is a necessary factor in a variety of Australian lives.

Volgograd City

Hello. My name is Olga Volkova. I am Russian. I was born in Volgograd. It is a very beautiful city situated on the Volga river. The Volga is the largest river in Europe in terms of length, discharge, and watershed.

One of the famous sights of Volgograd is Mamayev Kurgan. The city was made famous for its resistance and extensive damage during the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. Mamayev Kurgan (Mamayev Hill) is a dominant height overlooking the city of Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad) in Southern Russia. The name in Russian means "tumulus of Mamai". The original Mamayev Kurgan was a Tartar burial mound 102 meters high, the current formation is dominated by a memorial complex commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad (August 1942 to February 1943). The battle was a decisive Soviet victory over Axis forces on the Eastern front of World War II and arguably the bloodiest battle in human history. At the time of its installation in 1967 the statue of The Motherland Calls formed the largest free-standing sculpture in the world.

One of the interesting places there is Volgograd Hydroelectric Plant stands a short distance to the north of Volgograd.Today the station is the largest in Europe. It consists of a 725-metre long, 44-metre high concrete dam that crosses the Volga river. Supporting it is a 3250-metre long landfilled dam with a maximum height of 47 metres. The Station also offers railway and road crossings of the Volga.

Volgograd Bridge is a concrete girder bridge over the Volga River in the city of Volgograd, Russia. The bridge and adjacent flyovers are 7,110 meters long. The bridge, which was inaugurated October 10, 2009 after 13 years of construction, is a key part of a planned 30-kilometer highway route that also includes a future bridge over the Akhtuba River. Currently, a single span (a second is still under construction) connects Mamayev Kurgan on the right (western) bank of the Volga with the road to Krasnoslobodsk on a spit between the Volga and the Akhtuba. It is the first bridge over the Volga in Volgograd Oblast; previously, the only automobile route over the river in he region passed over the Volga Hydroelectric Station dam.
Recently the Volgograd bridge that sent cars into the air as wind gusts shook the seven-kilometer construction last mounth has not been damaged and will be reopened last week. It was called "dancing bridge".

In Volgograd you could injoy of sundown on the Volga river in the Summer or enjoy of amazing pictures of ice and snow in the Winter.
